22nd Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Artistic
A Tribute to Cézanne 3

This collection of works combines photography, scanner techniques, and handcrafted aging and wear processes across multiple stages of creation. The piece uses a classic work by Paul Cézanne, a representative of the French Post-Impressionist movement, as its background, incorporating a creative approach to convey a unique narrative. Through post-production techniques, the work conceptually "travels" from China to Cézanne's former residence in France and back to China, with the various marks and elements on the image symbolizing the journey and the stories it represents. The postal stamps on the image reflect significant dates for both China and France, such as April 7, 2023, when French President Emmanuel Macron visited China, as well as notable occasions like Chinese New Year and the Winter Olympics. The plastic-wrapped fruits and artificially dyed blue flowers featured in the artwork are intended to draw attention to pressing global issues such as plastic pollution and food safety, urging viewers to reflect on the impact of globalization on the environment and public health.
