A Nation in Limbo

Afghanistan; Kabul: The hill of Wazir Akbar Khan, once a popular weekend destination for families, is now predominantly occupied by Taliban members from various provinces. The national flag of Afghanistan has been replaced by the white and black flag of the Taliban. This transformation reflects the significant changes in Kabul following the Taliban's takeover in August 2021. The presence of Taliban fighters in this public space signals a shift in social dynamics and the altered use of recreational areas. This change serves as a microcosm of the broader societal changes occurring across Afghanistan under Taliban rule.
