A Nation in Limbo
On June 16, 2021, many local workers who had contracts with Ecolog protested outside Camp Marmal in Mazar-e-Sharif. They were seeking severance pay that had not been provided at the end of their contracts. Camp Marmal is a significant NATO base in northern Afghanistan, serving as a hub for international military operations. During the protest, a Dutch cargo plane landed at the camp, highlighting ongoing logistical operations amid the withdrawal of NATO forces. This gathering reflects the challenges faced by local employees as international military presence in Afghanistan began to diminish.
