A Mentawai tribal man at work with a bamboo pole

I spent a week staying with the Mentawai tribe in Indonesia to photograph their culture, lifestyle and ways of foraging. During this afternoon, one of them got into shaping up a bamboo pole that they normally use to create sound as a way of communication between villages. Beating the hollow bamboo pole creates loud echo sound and in the silent forest, the sound can travel huge distances. They beat the bamboo pole in different style to send different messages between two clans. As I was photographing this man, the other elders were sitting behind and chit-chatting.
