A child celebrating her lunar birthday with mooncake

Luna was born on the evening of the annual Chinese Mid-autumn Festival, and her name reflects the full moon. Every year, she celebrates her lunar calendar birthday by blowing out a candle on a mooncake on the evening of the Mid-autumn Festival. She is an American with Chinese and Filipino heritage who lives in a neighborhood where Spanish is primarily spoken, and this little tradition is just a part of her complex identity.
