Near Quito there are four places with monuments about the middle of the world: Mitad del Mundo City, Calacalí, Catequilla hill and the San Luís de Guachalá town. The Middle of the World City is located thirteen kilometers from Quito in San Antonio de Pichincha, this monument is visited by around 500,000 tourists every year; being one of the places most frequented by travelers who come to Ecuador. I am Ecuadorian, as a child I remember the forced elementary school visits to the equinoctial line, to study the legacy of the French Geodesic Mission: thanks to them our country is called as it is called, thanks to them we have our identity, the world is flattened at the poles, the line does not pass through where they said, etc, etc, etc ...
